In 2001, The Sorbara Development Group (SDG) obtained draft plan approval from the Town of Oakville for Tanglewood, a 596-unit master planned community, which has kept the environment a priority in its design. Between 1999 and 2001, SDG negotiated various features believed to be benefits to both the community and the natural environment. For example, the preservation of an existing woodlot within the boundaries of the property and the subsequent introduction of a trail system within it has proved to be a valuable attraction. The decision to introduce an elongated (stream-like) storm pond provide opportunities for environmental interaction and education. Other decisions with respect to parkette placement and the use of lay-bys have all contributed to the creation of a very green plan. In conjunction with Evergreen, SDG continue their commitment to enhance the green elements of the neighbourhood with native species planting events to enhance the natural areas.
